A child's first birthday party is an exciting event for parents. Unfortunately, many 1-year-olds will show little interest in the details of their first birthday and may be overwhelmed if you throw them a party at the local Chuck E. Cheese. The main thing to remember when planning the baby's first birthday party is that you should keep it simple.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Plan a short party. Long events will put your baby in a cranky mood. The party should be no more than 2 hours and take place following the child's usual nap time.

  2. Step 2

Throw the first birthday party at your home. If it is the summertime, a backyard party would be ideal.

  3. Step 3

Keep the number of invited guests small. For a first birthday party, only invite close friends and relatives. There should be no more than four or five toddler age children at the party. Too many toddlers together will be overwhelming for the children.

  4. Step 4

Serve finger foods and cake. Chicken fingers, cut veggies and mini pizzas are all good choices for party food.

  5. Step 5

Set out plenty of toys to keep the birthday child and her friends busy. Make sure the party area is baby proof as well.

Tips & Warnings
  • It is not necessary to arrange organized games for a first birthday party. It will be impossible to get the toddlers to all participate.
  • Be sure to arrange for someone to help you with your child during the party. You may be busy with host duties and will need someone to feed and change your child.
