Computer users have turned away from floppy disks and have gone to using CD's and DVD's for data storage. The latter hold much more data on each disk. Microsoft Publisher has a template that can clearly and easily create labels for all those unknown discs laying around. Read on to learn more.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Launch Microsoft Publisher through the "Start" menu or from the Desktop and create a new file. Scroll down under the New Publication pane and click the right arrow next to Publications for Print. A list of choices will appear underneath and you will need to select Label.

  2. Step 2

Read down the list until you see "CD\DVD Labels" and select it by clicking on it. The right side of the window will display several types of labels for both the CD or DVD itself and the case of the disk. Make your choice of a pre-made template that you can edit or start fresh with a blank label. The margins are already outlined for both choices.

  3. Step 3

Add descriptive text to the CD or DVD label and case. Click "Insert" and "Text Box" from menu at the top of the page.

  4. Step 4

Save the label project. Click "File", "Save As" and name the project in the File Name box and "Save."

  5. Step 5

Print the project using the type of label that was suggested for use. Labels that are for the sleeve of the CD and DVD can be printed nicely on card stock since they do not necessarily have to be sticky back.

Tips & Warnings
  • Publisher has the file extension of .pub and the default folder that is saves to is My Documents.
