How to Make a Christmas Wreath

You know it's Christmastime when you start seeing twinkling lights up on houses, plastic reindeer in your neighbors' yards, and, of course, festive holiday wreaths adorning front doors. Wreaths are a beautiful bit of holiday décor that bring the magic of Christmas anywhere they are found. This Christmas, try making your own holiday cheer by getting the family together and creating your own Christmas wreath masterpiece.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

• Wire coat hangers
• Floral wire
• Floral tape
• Craft moss
• Coniferous branches, 5 to 10 inches long each, depending on your desired look
• Decorative items

1. Use a wire coat hanger as the base for your wreath. Mold the hanger into the shape of a circle, leaving the hooked end intact for hanging. Double up on the hangers to add extra support, connecting the two hangers using wire.
2. Cover your hangers with floral tape so that they blend with your greenery.
3. Pack craft moss all around your frame, securing it with your floral wire. Although not imperative, the moss will help provide an anchor for the branches you are about to add.
4. Place one of your branches on the wire frame and secure it in place using the floral wire.
5. Add another branch such that it overlaps the stem of the first one. Continue adding branches in this way until the entire base is covered.
6. Decorate your wreath using ribbons, pine cones, glitter, berries, holly sprigs or any other ornamentation you wish. Attach your decorations using the floral wire or tape, or use a hot glue gun to affix them in a more permanent way.

Tips & Warnings

• Opt for a store-bought metal wreath frame in lieu of the coat hangers. Buying, rather than making, your frame will allow you to spend more time in actually arranging the wreath itself.
• Try using a variety of greenery branches instead of taking all of your branches from the same source. The variance in color and texture will help create an interesting appearance.
