1
Limit your alcohol intake. This is equally important whether you are attending a cocktail party for business or pleasure. Becoming intoxicated could lead you to behave in a manner that will end up embarrassing you and offending others.
-
2
Be sure to mingle. Cocktail parties are great for meeting new people. Take advantage of this fact and talk to different people.
-
-
3
Keep conversations light. To be safe, stay away from all subjects that are considered controversial.
-
4
Eat lightly. Remember, food is meant for everyone, so even if shrimp cocktail is your absolute favorite, it is not polite to pile as much as you can on your plate.
-
5
Know when to call it a night. Take cues from the party host and from other guests. If the host is beginning to look and sound tire and guests are making their way toward the door, begin saying your goodbyes as well.
-
6
Thank the host before you leave. You ate and you drank for free; it is ungracious not to say thank you.
