Got kids? If so, there is no denying that you also have crayons: broken crayons at that! You may even have more old broken crayons than usable ones in your house. You know the kids aren’t going to use them, but something just won’t let you throw them away… Well, it is time to do something constructive with those little annoyances!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wax paper
  • Crayons
  • Old towel or cloth
  • Cheese grater or pencil sharpener
  • Iron
  • Construction paper or poster board
  • Glue
  1. Step 1

Grate or use a pencil sharpener to make little bits out of old crayons.

  2. Step 2

Put the shavings in between two pieces of wax paper.

  3. Step 3

Cover top sheet of wax paper with an old towel.

  4. Step 4

Iron on low heat until shavings are melted together.

  5. Step 5

Cut two identical pieces of a ‘frame’ out of construction paper or poster board.

  6. Step 6

Glue the ‘stained glass’ in between the two sides of frame. You may need to cut the stained glass to make the right shape to fit in your frame. It is easily cut with scissors or razor blade.

  7. Step 7

Punch a hole in the top of your frame and feed yarn through the hole

  8. Step 8

Hang in front of a window!

Tips & Warnings
  • Add glitter or confetti to change it up a bit.
  • You can hang yarn from tiny suction cups directly to window, or from a nail at top of window frame.
  • For extra fun, decorate the frame with buttons, feathers or glitter.
  • Be careful to keep little fingers safe from the hot wax and iron.
