When playing ping pong, it's easy to get mad at losing and crush the ball. Rather than stop playing, learn how to fix a dented ping pong ball.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Flame source
  • Dented ping pong ball
  1. Step 1

Use a dryer. You can stick the ping pong ball in a clothes dryer for about 30 seconds. This should get the dent out.

  2. Step 2

Use a lighter, candle or other open flame source. You can move the flame over the bottom of the ball and it will make the inner gases expand and they will pop the dent out.

  3. Step 3

Boil away your problem. Heat up a pot of water to boiling. Drop your ball into the water. Watch it very carefully. As soon as it returns to its shape, scoop it out of the water. Put it in a paper towel and dry it.

  4. Step 4

Cool down. After doing any of the above steps, make sure that your ball has plenty of time to cool down before touching it or using it again. This will ensure that the plastic strengthens before you start beating on it again.

  5. Step 5

Buy a new ping-pong ball. Sometimes you can only do so much to a 25-cent piece of plastic. You might just need to throw in the towel and buy a new one.

Tips & Warnings
  • When using the flame method, never let the ball sit still over the flame. Make sure you keep the lighter moving. If you don't, you will get a big burn hole in the middle of your ball, and that is not fixable.
  • When using the boil method, don't leave the ball in much longer than it takes to pop the dent out.
  • Never do anything with the stove or a lighter without parental supervision. Ask your mom or dad before you do any of the above steps.
