How to Create Facebook Groups

A Facebook group is ideal for a club, team or similar collection of people who want to easily share information, pictures and files with a group of people. Before you create a new Facebook group, first choose a privacy option: public (anyone can join), closed (anyone can ask to join or be invited by a member), or secret (new members must be added or invited by a member). Secret groups don't appear in search results unless you're a current or former member of the group.

Adding a Group

  • To add a new group, select "Groups" in the left column of your Home page and choose "+ Create a New Group" at the top of the page. Type a name for the group, enter one or more members of the group, select either public, closed or secret and then choose "Create." You might want to modify other group settings after you create the group.

Changing Group Settings

  • Select the gear icon and choose "Edit Group Settings" on the group page. Add a description for your group, assign tags and choose a URL and Facebook email address. You can also grant privileges to other group members to help you administer the group page. Choose "Save" after you've finished editing the group settings. On the group page itself, you can perform common Facebook tasks such as posting updates to group members, uploading pictures and files and changing the group's profile picture.
