Firsts are always special, and a first wedding anniversary is no exception. Choosing a gift for the occasion is easy when you follow tradition.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Paper is traditional for the first wedding anniversary, so think of options that fit the bill—a gift certificate, a poem or a letter are all suitable choices.

  2. Step 2

Consider the couple's interest. Books are a perfect choice for a "paper" anniversary, provided you can present them with something you know they will find appealing.

  3. Step 3

Find out if they have a favorite restaurant. The food won't be constructed of paper (at least, we hope not) but you can give them a paper gift certificate in a beautifully wrapped gift box.

  4. Step 4

Airline tickets will no doubt be appreciated. You can also give the couple tickets to the theater, concerts or sporting events.

  5. Step 5

Choose a gift certificate for something they can enjoy together. Dinner is only one example. Some other ideas might include an afternoon at a luxury spa or a day on the ski slopes. For a really special gift, give a gift certificate for a weekend away from it all.

  6. Step 6

You can give a special paper gift without spending a cent. Write a poem and transcribe it on parchment in calligraphy, or create your own certificates for services such as a night’s babysitting for new parents or a weekend away at your cabin in the mountains.

  7. Step 7

Cash is made out of paper and you can rarely go wrong giving it as a present.
