Most keyboards have a PS/2 interface. However, keyboards with a USB interface are getting popular. A USB keyboard can be connected to a CPU through the USB port. Although a computer has several USB ports, these may be used by other accessories. In such cases, you can also connect a USB keyboard to a PS/2 port.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Buy a reliable USB to PS/2 adapter. Search online, browse through Web sites of major retailers such as BestBuy and CompUSA (see links below) or research buyers’ guides such as MySimon (see link below) to get more information about features and pricing of various USB to PS/2 adapters.

  2. Step 2

Install the driver software from the installation CD (comes with the adapter). Some adapters don’t need any software to be installed.

  3. Step 3

Connect the USB connector of the keyboard to the adapter.

  4. Step 4

Connect the adapter to the PS/2 port. You are now ready to use the USB keyboard.

Tips & Warnings
  • Some adapters may require you to run optimizing software, especially if you want to connect the USB keyboard to an Apple Macintosh with a PS/2 port.
