Making a paper boat can be a fun activity for children and adults alike. Seeing your creation float on water can be satisfying as you watch your art come to life. Here are a few steps to create a paper boat that really works!

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper (anything similar will do)
  • Table to work on (any flat surface will do)
  • Pair of scissors (optional)
  1. Step 1

Place the sheet of paper on the table in front you.

  2. Step 2

Take the bottom right-corner and fold it up toward the top-left corner.

  3. Step 3

With a pair of scissors, remove the excess paper to form a triangle.

  4. Step 4

Once the paper is removed, the paper should look as follows.

  5. Step 5

Unfold the paper triangle to show a newly created square piece of paper.

  6. Step 6

Fold the bottom right-corner of the paper triangle up toward the top-left.

  7. Step 7

Unfold the paper to show a paper square with an "X" impression.

  8. Step 8

Fold each corner of the square to it's center.

  9. Step 9

Fold each tip to it's baseline.

  10. Step 10

Repeat step 10 for each corner tip.

  11. Step 11

    Tuck each corner under.

  12. Step 12

    Fold the paper in half.

  13. Step 13

Fold each half back to it's top-side.

  14. Step 14

Your almost done. The paper now resembles a rectangle.

  15. Step 15

    Fold each corner side down.

  16. Step 16

Make three folds to show the paper (see picture).

  17. Step 17

    Repeat for both sides.

  18. Step 18

Take the paper in hand and hold according to picture.

  19. Step 19

Pull the two sides of the paper apart and push the center through the opposite side.

  20. Step 20

If everything went ok, looks like this picture.

  21. Step 21

    Expand the boat's side covers.

  22. Step 22

    Now go float your boat.

Tips & Warnings
  • Take your time and make each fold exact.
  • You can water proof the paper with crayons.
  • Boat floats for about an hour.
