How to Add an Outline to Text in Photoshop

Need text that stands out on a complex background? Outline it in Photoshop.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• Photoshop

1. Open Photoshop and select New from the File menu. Select the Type tool.

2. Locate the background you want to add text to and click Open.

3. Click on the background. Type your text.

4. Choose All from the Select menu to highlight your text. Select your font and size from the drop-down menus in the Type Tool window.

5. Click on the color box and click on a light color. Click OK twice.

6. From the Layers menu, select Effects and then Outer Glow. Change Mode to Normal, Opacity to 100, Blur to 3 and Intensity to 600.

7. Click on the color box and select a dark color. Click OK.

Tips & Warnings

• Large, bold fonts work best.
• If your background is dark, choose a light outline color and a dark text color.
