Step 1
Cut a 3 1/2- to 4-foot square from a light-colored blanket or heavy fabric.

Step 2
Fold the fabric diagonally.

Step 3
Use acrylic paint or markers to decorate the poncho with Mexican art and geometric shapes.

Step 4
Cut a fringe around the bottom.

Step 5
Make a V-shape cut in the center of the fold. It should be big enough to poke your head through.

Step 6
Sew the seams of the head opening or tack them down with fusible web.
