How to Grow Texas Bluebonnet

Long thought of as a wildflower that thrived only in the hill country of the Lone Star State, the Texas bluebonnet does well in many other parts of the country. This annual (grows just one year) likes cool weather - it blooms in mid spring, then fades out. Does this Spark an idea?

      Choose a site in full sun to light shade with poor to average soil.

      Plant in early spring. Set plants about 1 foot apart.

      Keep soil somewhat moist, although Texas bluebonnets can tolerate light drought.

      Tear out plants when they become faded (when heat sets in). In ideal conditions, they will reseed.
