How to Fix the Volume Dial on a Bose Car Stereo
Bose factory car stereos are no different than any other when it comes to dirt and grime accumulating behind the volume knob. This is especially true in a mobile environment, where dust particles, pollen and other contaminants find their way in easily. Bose car stereo owners with this situation report fuzzy and erratic volume operation. Cleaning the contacts behind a Bose volume knob is a relatively straightforward process, using compressed air and contact cleaner.
Instructions

1
Turn off the vehicle. Grab the Bose radio's volume knob firmly with your fingers, and pull straight out. Do not wiggle the knob, as this places stress on the post the to which the knob is attached.
-
2
Note the contamination on the contacts surrounding the base of the volume knob stem. Attach the stem to the compressed air can. Blow as much of the visible contamination out as you can.

3
Attach the stem to the contact cleaner. Insert the tip of the stem behind the top of the base of the Bose radio's volume knob stem. Apply a short burst of cleaner. You will see bubbling and quick evaporation of the cleaner.
-
4
Replace the knob. Turn the knob slowly a few times with the stereo off to evenly distribute any residual cleaner.
