How to Troubleshoot Gracenote

Gracenote is a program used by iTunes, Sonicstage, MediaGo and Spotify that automatically checks for the artist and track names when you insert a CD into your computer. This program can find information on the vast majority of CD's, but you will encounter times when Gracenote won't be able to retrieve the information.

Instructions

Verify that your music program has Gracenote is enabled. If you're using iTunes, click "Edit" in the top left corner of the screen. Select "Preferences" from the menu under the General tab. Click the box for "Automatically Retrieve CD Track Names from Internet" to enable Gracenote.

Check the Internet connection. Gracenote needs a working Internet connection to get the names of CD tracks from the database. If you're using a cable modem, unplug it, wait 30 seconds and plug it back in to reset the connection. If you're still having problems, it may be that something is wrong with your Internet service provider. Contact your ISP to resolve the issue.

Examine the track names on the back of your CD's case. Some CDs are older or out of print, and Gracenote doesn't have the track information available to retrieve. If you're using iTunes, right-click on each track and select "Edit Track" to enter the artist's name and the name for each track.
