How to Hardwire Video to a VGA Plug

When you purchase a computer online, you may sometimes get the option to pick its parts, but it always comes complete in the end. When you are building your own computer, you must know all of the parts necessary to run it. For example, a VGA card, also known as a graphics card, is an essential part to building your computer. This card displays all of the images and video on your computer.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the Device Manager through "Computer" and click the plus sign ("+") beside "Display Adapter." Right-click your current graphics card and select "Properties." Switch to the "Drivers" tab and click "Uninstall." This is only necessary if you have a VGA card installed already and want to upgrade.

    • 2

Turn off your computer and open the case. Ground yourself by touching a piece of unpainted metal and not stepping on carpet. Alternatively, you can wear an antistatic bracelet to consistently keep grounded.

    • 3

Remove the old VGA card from your case. This is usually a brown slot toward the back of the case, and it may still be connected to your monitor. Unplug the monitor before removing the card if this is the case.

    • 4

Slide the new card into the brown slot, reconnecting the monitor into the plug. Screw the card into place to keep it secure.

    • 5

Close the case and boot the computer. Insert the disk that came with your card into the disk drive, and follow the onscreen instructions to install the new drivers.
