How to Center a Pattern From the Swatches in Illustrator

To center any object in Adobe Illustrator CS5, including swatch pattern-filled objects, you will need to align it to the artboard. The artboard is either a rectangle or square and its size varies according to your settings. Regardless of your artboard's size, its edges become the boundary in which this pattern will center on a vertical or horizontal axis. The pattern can also be aligned to appear in the center of the artboard.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the Adobe Illustrator file that contains the swatch pattern-filled object in Adobe Illustrator.

    • 2

Activate the Selection tool and position it near the pattern-filled object. Choose a place where no other art exists. Click and then drag to select this object.

    • 3

Shift-click in the artboard with the Selection tool. The artboard selected for this center alignment should become an active selection with a darkened outline.

    • 4

Choose "Window" and "Align" to reveal the Align panel.

    • 5

Choose "Align to Artboard" from within the Align panel and choose an option to center the object either horizontally, vertically or both. Apply a vertical and horizontal alignment to center the pattern in the middle of the artboard.
