Origami is the ancient art of paper folding. It can be used to make a variety of shapes and forms. Origami keys are one such form. This project takes less than 30 minutes and can be completed by anyone with just a little experience with paper folding.
Things You'll Need
- Sheet origami paper, 6 inches square
Place a piece of origami paper in front of you, colored-side down, and turn it so that it forms a square instead of a diamond. Fold the right edge over 1/2 inch. Crease well.
Fold the right edge over 1/2 inch again. Continue folding the right edge over until you have a strip of origami paper that is 1/2-inch wide.
Place your forefinger on the strip of paper 2 inches from the top of the strip. Fold the strip of paper down and to the right at this point. The top 2 inches of the paper must be perpendicular to the rest of the strip.
Fold the top piece of paper down so that it is parallel to the main part of the strip. The top part of the strip will now be beside the bottom part of the strip.
Fold the piece on the right to the left. It will now be perpendicular to the bottom part of the strip. Tuck the end of the top part of the strip behind the bottom part of the strip. You will now have a strip of paper with a knot at the top. Sharpen all creases to keep the knot in place.
Use the scissors to cut the teeth of the key away from the knot at the long end of the strip. The exact pattern of the teeth are up to you, but cutting 1/4 inch though the folded edge of the strip at 1/4 inch intervals and folding up every second cut piece will give you a basic key. You may wish to create a key with teeth of different shapes and sizes.
