How to Make Aftershave Balm for Sensitive Skin

Use aftershave balm to soothe sensitive skin.

Don’t let razor burn and dry patches caused by shaving be the first thing someone notices about you. Aftershave balm moisturizes your skin and helps to prevent that nasty, red razor rash so your face shines. Men with sensitive skin can truly benefit from the right kind of aftershave. You don't need to pay for a high-end product, either. You can make your own sensitive-skin aftershave balm to keep your freshly shorn face glowing.

Things You'll Need

• Zester
• Orange
• 2 glass jars, 16-ounce
• 1 cinnamon stick
• 4 whole cloves
• 4 allspice berries
• 1/2 teaspoon glycerin
• 1/2 teaspoon aloe vera
• 1 ounce rum
• Jigger
• 2 cups witch hazel extract
• Bay rum tree essential oil

Instructions

1. Run a zester over the entire surface of an orange to remove the top layer of the orange peel, the zest. Place the orange zest into a 16-ounce glass jar.

2. Place the cinnamon stick, four whole cloves and four allspice berries into the jar.

3. Measure 1/2 teaspoon of glycerin and 1/2 teaspoon aloe vera. Add both to the jar.

4. Measure 1 ounce of rum and 2 cups of witch hazel extract. Pour the rum and witch hazel into the glass jar.

5. Add 30 drops of bay rum tree essential oil to the jar mixture.

6. Seal the jar and shake to mix the ingredients of your aftershave balm. Shake the jar every day for five weeks.

7. Pour the contents of the jar through a strainer into a clean 16-ounce jar.

8. Use the aftershave balm each time you shave to keep your skin soft and moisturized.

Tips & Warnings

• Dilute the aftershave balm with 1/4 cup water if your skin is ultra-sensitive.

• Bay rum extract, glycerin extract, aloe vera and witch hazel extract can be found at most health-food stores.
