Gold embossing on items, while pleasing to the eye, is not always the effect that you want to see. If you have an item that you wish to remove the golf leaf stamp from, such as a personalized wallet or book, then you can try a number of different techniques to remove it. Removing the gold stamp does not necessarily mean that you will remove all effects of it, such as stains on the leather.

Step 1

Rub off the gold stamp with a pencil eraser. The gold emboss is not bonded chemically so in some cases the loose gold stamp can be removed by abrading it gently.

Step 2

Place some ice cubes in a watertight plastic bag. Hold the plastic bag over the gold stamp for three to four minutes. Scrape off the god stamp with the flat end of a table knife. Do not dig too deeply and scratch the leather surface.

Step 3

Attach some electric tape to the leather surface over the top of the gold stamp. Press the tape down and then pull it up. The gold stamp should be removed, attached to the tape.

Step 4

Scrape the gold leaf off carefully with a wire brush. This will remove the gold leaf although it does run the risk of permanently scratching the leather, so this should only be used as a last resort on non-valuable items.
