How to Remove Siser Vinyl From a T-Shirt
Sometimes the vinyl on your favorite shirt cracks or the vinyl graphic you added just looks wrong and needs to be removed. Fortunately, you can save the shirt and get rid of the graphics. Siser is a company that makes heat-transfer vinyl that's used on all types of clothing, including T-shirts. Removing Siser vinyl and adding Siser vinyl incorporate the same process. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
-
Heat-and-Wax-Paper Method
-
1
Cover the Siser vinyl graphic completely with wax paper.
-
2
Iron over the wax paper with an iron on a medium/high setting. Because Siser vinyl is heat-activated, the goal is to get the vinyl to transfer from the T-shirt to the wax paper.
-
-
3
Remove the wax paper carefully but quickly. Avoid pulling too fast and ripping the vinyl, or moving too slowly and allowing the vinyl to reattach to the T-shirt. If the shirt's cooled, re-iron the area and remove the wax paper.
-
4
Apply nail-polish remover or vinegar to a cotton ball and remove any residue left behind by the vinyl. First test the shirt on an inside hem to see if the polish remover or vinegar causes damage.
Heat-Only Method
-
5
Turn the T-shirt inside-out.
-
6
Place a handkerchief or other thin cloth over the area with the graphic.
-
7
Iron the shirt on a medium setting for 15 seconds.
-
8
Use your fingers to check to see if the Siser vinyl is beginning to loosen. If it is, peel it with your fingers. Be careful; the garment will be hot. If the vinyl is firmly attached, iron the area for another 15 seconds.
-
9
Use a razor blade to remove the vinyl if the T-shirt gets too hot for your fingertips, or if the vinyl is resisting coming off.

Apply nail-polish remover or vinegar to a cotton ball to remove any residue from the vinyl. First test the shirt on an inside hem to see if the polish remover or vinegar causes damage.
