How to Fix Error Code SL for Whirlpool Calypso Washing Machines

An SL Code is usually due to using non-HE detergent.

The Whirlpool Calypso washer displays error codes when the washer is not working properly. Some of these codes, such as the SL code, give an indication to the user where to look for a problem. The SL code indicates that there is either too large a load of clothes, improper or too much detergent, or possibly a malfunction in the drain pump. Fixing the error code SL on a Whirlpool Calypso washing machine usually is a matter of cleaning out extra detergent from the washer.

Instructions

1. Press the “Stop/Cancel” button and release it when the display clears and the Calypso washer stops. The “Stop/Cancel” button is to the left of the “Start” button.

2. Push the “Extend Spin” button on the “Options” portion of the control console. Press the “Start” button.

3. Allow the washer to complete the wash cycle. Once the cycle completes, take the clothes out of the washer.

4. Set the washer to a normal wash cycle with cold water only. Do not add any detergent or clothes to the washer. Press the “Start” button and allow the washer to complete the wash cycle. This helps clean out any extra detergent still in the washer.

Tips & Warnings

• If the SL code comes up when running an empty washer, the drain pump either has a clog or in need of replacement. Contact a service center for diagnosis and possible pump replacement.
