How to Remove Sump Entrance Screen on GE Dishwasher

In order to access the sump pump assembly in your GE dishwasher, you must remove the sump entrance screen from the appliance. The sump pump helps to remove excess water from the unit, and the sump entrance screen stops food particles and other small items from entering the sump pump assembly. Once the sump entrance screen is removed, you can also inspect it to determine if there is damage and if it needs to be replaced.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver
  • Turn off the power to your GE dishwasher from the kitchen circuit breaker. Open the dishwasher door.

  • Remove the bottom rack from the dishwasher by sliding it all the way out.

  • Pull up on the tab on the spray arm to release it, then pull the spray arm out of the dishwasher.

  • Push the tab to remove the fine filter assembly, then remove the screw from the base of the spray arm assembly.

  • Remove the base, then remove the two screws from the sump entrance screen. Slide the sump cover to the left and lift it up.

  • Remove the sump entrance screen from the dishwasher and inspect it for any cracks or damage. Replace the cover, if necessary, with a new part.

  • Place the sump screen back on the unit, then reinsert the two screws to secure the cover. Place the spray arm base back over the cover.

  • Insert the screw into the base cover. Place the spray arm back in the base so that it locks into place.

  • Slide the bottom rack back into the dishwasher, then close the dishwasher door. Turn the power back on from the circuit breaker.
