How to Make a Model of a Church out of Cardboard

Churches come in a wide range of shapes and sizes, making them an interesting choice for a model. Cardboard is a cheap, sturdy material that allows you to create an accurate church miniature. Once you get the cardboard base down, add extra decorations to make it look attractive. Start making models using a simple New England style church that is a single room. As you increase your modeling skills, start basing your models on famous and intricate churches from around the world.

Instructions

    • 1

Take the lid off a cardboard shoebox. Cut out a door and four windows on the inside of the box using a craft knife.

    • 2

Cut slits into the long sides of the shoebox lid with your craft knife. Cut a piece of cardboard twice the width of your shoebox lid and just as long. Bend the cardboard into an “A” shape.

    • 3

Insert the legs of the “A” shaped cardboard piece into the slits atop the cardboard box. This holds the “A” frame shape in place. Glue the cardboard “A” in place using a hot glue gun.

    • 4

Cut two triangular pieces of cardboard. Fit them into the opening of the “A” shaped frame. Glue them in place, completing the pointed top of the building.

    • 5

Cut the rounded edges off wooden craft sticks by sawing at them with the craft knife. Coat the “A” shaped construct in craft glue. Place the craft sticks along its length horizontally. This resembles the wooden slats on an old roof.

    • 6

Paint the cardboard triangles and the exterior of the cardboard box a creamy white color.

    • 7

Draw a stained glass window design on tissue paper using colored pencils. Cut the tissue paper into a square an inch longer on either side than the windows. Place the tissue paper against the inside wall of the cardboard box, with the design facing out.

    • 8

Tape the tissue paper into place to work as stained glass windows. Cut a piece of cardboard large enough to cover the door of the box. Draw a door on the front of the cardboard and set it on the inside of the box.

    • 9

Center the door design over the hole in the shoebox. Position it with the door design facing outward. Tape the door in place.

    • 10

Cut a cross from cardboard. Paint it brown and let it dry. Glue it onto the shoebox right over the front door. Place the lid atop the box to complete the building by setting the roof in place.
