Lizard boots require more care than leather boots because they are crafted out of an exotic skin. The scales on a pair of lizard boots are what give them a special look, but they are also what cause the boots to require extra attention. Lizard skin can become dry and cracked easily because of the nature of the scales. By learning to repair your cracked lizard boots, you will save money by not having to hire a professional and will enjoy a shiny pair of boots in no time.

Wipe the exterior of the lizard boot with a damp cotton cloth. Be sure to go with the scales, not against them, so they don't get damaged.

Brush the boot gently with a soft-bristled brush to remove any additional dirt or grime.

Apply the leather conditioner to the interior of the boot with a soft cotton cloth. Rub gently as the conditioner absorbs into the leather of the boot. Reapply the conditioner until the interior of the boot is soft and supple again. Cracks on lizard boots often start from the inside.

Apply a light coat of conditioner that was made specifically for lizard on the exterior of the boot. If there is a crack on the exterior of the boot, work the conditioner in very gently so the scales don't break and fall off.

Store the boot in a clean, dry space. It is best to fill the boot with crumpled newspaper when in storage so cracks in the leather and the skin can be prevented.
