Instructions

Tile Installation
-
1
Allow the tiles to sit overnight in the area where they will be installed to acclimate to the room's temperature.
-
2
Patch holes, gaps or cracks in subfloors using a non-shrinking moisture-resistant Portland-based patching compound. Adura tiles require a smooth, even subfloor surface that is free of moisture and dirt.
-
-
3
Find the center point of the room using a measuring tape and then section it into four quadrants using a chalk line.
-
4
Apply adhesive to the subfloor surface in each quadrant using a 1/16-inch notched trowel.
-
5
Allow the adhesive to cure according to the manufacturer’s directions. Once the trowel ridges appear cloudy and the valleys are clear, the adhesive is ready for tile.
-
6
Lay the first tile at the center point, where the chalk lines intersect. Line it up along the lines so that it is installed squarely and press it into the adhesive. Make note of the direction that the arrows are pointing. Lay all the tiles so the arrows on the back point in the same direction.
-
7
Lay the second tile next to the first, working outward along the chalk line. Press it firmly into the adhesive before moving on to the next tile. Use tile spacers of either 1/16 inch or 1/4 inch between each tile to ensure a uniform joint if you plan grout the tiles after installation.
-
8
Lay the third tile below the first tile, working downward along the chalk line, and continue laying tiles in a stair step pattern until the entire quadrant is tiled.
-
9
Repeat laying tiles in the same stair step pattern in the remaining three quadrants.
-
10
Cut tiles to fit edges and around corners, if needed, using a tile cutter. Roll over the tiles in all directions using a 100-pound floor roller after installation.
-
11
Wait 48 hours for the adhesive to cure and then clean the floor with a damp mop.
-
12
Install moldings or cover base to cover all exposed edges. In bathroom installations, apply caulk along tubs and fixtures.
Optional Grouting
-
13
Sweep away debris and dirt from the tile joints before grouting. You can grout Adura tiles immediately after installation.
-
14
Apply acrylic grout using the narrow edge of a rubber float. Pack each joint so that there are no gaps or bumps.
-
15
Remove excess grout using the edge of the float, scraping it at a 45-degree angle over each joint. Avoid grouting more than 20 square feet of tile without pausing to wipe the tile surface clean with a damp nylon scrubbing pad.
-
16
Wait 24 hours for the grout to cure. If a haze develops, scrub with a solution of 1/4 cup ammonia to a gallon of water and then thoroughly rinse the area.
