1
Apply hair conditioner or hand lotion to the fingers of one hand.
-
2
Hold the tangle in the hand that does not have lotion on it. You will use the other hand to work out the snarl gently.
-
3
Comb your fingers through the snarl. Begin at the bottom of the snarl and work toward the scalp.
-
4
For really bad snarls, wet the hair and apply conditioner. Leave the conditioner in the hair while you finger-brush it.
-
5
Gently comb out the hair with a wide-toothed comb to prevent more snarls from developing.

Never underestimate the power of a good cut, to begin with. My daughter has lovely long locks, and my stylist cut layers on the underside of her hair, where the "rats' nests" grow. She gets to keep the length, and we have many fewer tears. -

Try using a hair detangling spray, such as Suave Kids Detangling Spray. It doesn't have a strong smell and it really does work. Just spray about 3 inches from the snarl and brush it through. It works like a charm. -

If I have a snarl in my hair, I simply take a pair of scissors and trim it off as close as I can to the point where it snarls. The snarls are rarely anything major, usually just 3 or 4 hair strands that have become knotted up. Cutting it off is so much easier. I only cut off a snarl if it proves impossible to remove by brushing or finger work.
