Your more conservative visitors may be startled when they see what you've done with your very secular troll collection. But to those of us who grew up worshipping trolls - those perennial childhood favorites - they're naturals for Christmas Nativity scenes.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

    Cast Your Trolls

  1. Step 1

Assess your trolls and assign them roles: the most feminine one, of course, will be Mary. Tie or braid the hair for Joseph and the three wise men.

  2. Step 2

Make clothes in colors that signal their roles: Mary is always in blue (often combined with white); Joseph, in brown. For the three wise men, choose linked, complementary colors - three shades of green, perhaps. (See below for how to make troll costumes.)

  3. Step 3

Accessorize the trolls to signal their roles. Mary needs a bundle to signal the baby Jesus (use a baby troll if you have one, of course). Joseph usually has a staff of some kind and the three wise men need gifts.

  4. Make a Troll Dress or Robe

  5. Step 1

Cut a circle out of felt. Its diameter should be twice as long as the troll is tall.

  6. Step 2

Fold in quarters and cut a neck hole (a small one - cut a vertical slit so that it will go over the head).

  7. Step 3

    Pull over the troll's head.

  8. Step 4

    Mark armholes and cut.

  9. Step 5

Tie at the waist with ribbon or string.
