You can dress up your dolls or trolls or buy a set - but if you're trying for a home-made holiday, why not make the nativity figures as well?

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Mix enough dough to make your set - 4 cups of flour with a cup of salt and 1 1/2 to 2 cups of water should do it (you can always make more).

  2. Step 2

Shape figures according to your skill. A head and shoulders and then a smooth bowed triangle shape (to signify a human figure, cloaked and looking down) is easiest. You'll need 5 adults of varying sizes (Mary, Joseph, and the Magi) and a baby. If you've got enough dough, try some sheep and cows too.

  3. Step 3

Place the figures on a baking sheet and bake at low heat - 150-200 degrees - for an hour. Then leave overnight in a warm oven (propped open so the light's on with no other heat is perfect).

  4. Step 4

Paint the figures with acrylic paints - blue for Mary, brown for Joseph, regal colors for the Magi.

  5. Step 5

    Allow to dry.

  6. Step 6

    Place in your nativity scene.
