Rolled up bandanas aren’t just for bikers and those stuck in an '80s fashion rut. These versatile accessories can add retro flair to today’s looks. Whether you wear your bandana as a headband, wrist band or hair accessory, the basic piece can become the highlight of your wardrobe. There’s a way to roll it, though, that makes it look contemporary instead of old-school. Learn how to the roll the bandana correctly so you look polished and put together.

Step 1

Lay the bandana on a flat surface and open it up until it forms a square.

Step 2

Grasp the lower right corner and fold it diagonally until it touches the upper left corner. You now have a triangle shape. Turn the triangle so the longest flat side is at the bottom.

Step 3

Place your hands on the two corners at the bottom of the triangle and fold the edge upward 1 to 2 inches. Folding the lower edge first allows you to roll the bandana more easily later.

Step 4

Grasp the base near the center with both hands. Place your thumbs underneath the bottom edge and your fingers on top of it. Roll the base of the bandana upward. Continue rolling upward until you reach the top and the entire bandana is in roll.

Step 5

Place the bandana where you want it, and tie the two ends together in a knot to secure it. You can wear rolled bandanas as headbands, neck scarves or as wristbands.
