Agitator Not Working
Typically, this is the first thing to go wrong with a GE washing machine, and it is usually the easiest to fix. Many people panic when their agitator goes down, fearing that the problem is deeply mechanical. Usually, the problem is with the drive belt, however, and can easily be fixed at home.
Before attempting any repairs to your GE washer, make sure and unplug the appliance. Even the simplest of repairs can result in electrical shock.
Remove the back access panel of the washer and press on the drive belt. If it moves more than an inch with the pressure, it needs to be tightened. Loosen the mounting nut and gently move the motor along the mounting rail until the belt tightens. Screw the mounting nut back in and the problem should be resolved.
Washer is Leaking
Often, a leaky washer is due to problems with the hose. Unplug the washer and pull it away from the wall to inspect the hose. Look at both the inlet hoses and the drain hose to make sure there are no obvious leaks. To test the appliance, plug the washer back in and start the washer. Watch the hoses carefully to see if the leaks are coming from them. If so, replace the hose. You can buy replacements parts through the GE website or at your local appliance retailer.
Washer Won't Fill
The problem here is usually a clogged filter screen. Turn off the water at the wall and unscrew the hoses from the back of the washer. From there, you'll have access to the filter screens. Inspect them. If they are dirty, remove them and clean them with water and a brush. After replacing them, the problem should be resolved. Take this time to check the hoses themselves for any kinks that could be preventing the water from flowing freely through them.
