Honda inverter generators use advanced technology to produce alternating current, or AC, electricity that is as clean as AC from utility companies. They are smaller, quieter and more fuel efficient than their conventional predecessors.
Regular Electric Generators
Regular generators use copper coils rotating at 3600 revolutions per minute, or RPM, to generate AC electricity. The electric current can fluctuate which damages sensitive electronic equipment like computers.
Honda Inverter Generators
Inverter generators use a three-step process to produce electricity. Multiphase high voltage AC is produced by the generator. The AC is converted to direct current by a microprocessor. This DC is then converted back to AC by the inverter.
A microprocessor monitors the engine speed to match the generator's need for AC. This makes the generators quieter and more fuel efficient. The microprocessor also smooths out any surges in the AC. This is better electricity for electronic components that would damaged by surges.
Inverter generators cannot supply large wattage for uses such as whole house electric backup or construction site needs. Regular generators are better for that until inverter technology advances to provide this.
