Do Valves Get Replaced With New Tire Installation?

Do Valves Get Replaced With New Tire Installation? thumbnail
An old valve stem can lead to a flat tire.

Replacing the tires on your vehicle is often an expensive venture, and you should expect the best service possible. One of those services is the replacement of the old valve stems with new stems.

  1. Every Time

    • Valve stems slowly wear out along with the tires due to age and weather conditions. Valve stems should be a part of every new tire installation, with only a few exceptions.

    Exceptions

    • There are times when a valve stem cannot or should not be replaced. Some high-pressure valve stems are hard-metal stems that are bolted to the rim. These stems are not replaced, but the valve core will be replaced. Similarly, only the cores of stems of sensors in tire pressure monitoring systems are replaced.

    Signs

    • It is easy to tell if your valve stems are new. A new stem has a shine and looks new. Old stems have grease and grime on the threads beneath the cap. New stems' threads are shiny and clean.
