HDTV Tuner Problems
An HDTV tuner provides high-definition signals to HD-ready television sets and PCs. It must be purchased separately if your device is not equipped with an internal tuner. If your tuner is producing less than picture-perfect results, there are several issues that may be at the root.
-
Identification
-
Ensure that the external tuner is intended for HD viewing and is compatible with your computer or television set. If you are having problems with a compatible tuner, the result may be a pixelated or garbled image, or no image at all.
Considerations
-
When using an HD tuner with your PC or TV, you need an antenna to receive a signal. If you are already using an antenna, your location may necessitate a larger set. Move the antenna around your house to see if you can improve reception if situated differently. If you are more than 70 miles from a transmitting tower; however, you will be unable to receive signal no matter what antenna you use.
-
Troubleshooting
-
Other potential issues that could cause reception problems on a television include improper or corroded cable fittings. On a PC, ensure that your software is updated and your firewall or virus software is not conflicting with the tuner. You can also try lowering the resolution of your graphics card.
