Pine cones can be used to create everything from animal creatures to natural decorations. Plentiful in autumn, pine cones can be gathered on a nature walk or purchased at most craft supply stores.

Natural Garlands

Create a pine cone garland by attaching pine cones to a long string of twine. Wrap the twine around each pine cone, and use a hot glue gun to secure the twine in place. A pine cone garland makes a nice addition to Christmas trees, mantles and stairway banisters.

Bird Feeder

Pine cone bird feeders are easy to make at any age. Use a glue gun to attach a length of twine to a pine cone, and then make a loop with end of twine not attached to the cone to act as a hanger. Cover the pine cone with peanut butter, and roll it in bird feed. Hang the feeder on a tree, and watch the birds enjoy.

Wise Owl

Create a wise owl craft with craft glue, wiggly craft eyes, black eyelash trim and yellow felt. Simply glue the wiggly eyes to the black eyelash trim, and then glue this piece to the upper half of the pine cone. Attach a small triangular piece of yellow felt between the eyes for the beak.

Ornaments

Create one-of-a-kind ornaments by painting pine cones with bright colors or spreading glue over the pine cones and sprinkling with glitter. Attach a length of ribbon with a hot glue gun to the top of the pine cone, and create a loop with the other end of the ribbon for easy hanging on your Christmas tree.
