How Much Beer Does a Half Keg Hold?

Save

If you're planning a large social gathering and your guests are going to be drinking beer, it's a good idea to buy a half keg. Cheaper and more environmentally friendly than cans or bottles, a half keg holds a lot of beer.

Gallons

  • A half keg of beer is known as a "pony" in some circles. It typically holds 7.75 gallons of liquid and weighs around 87 pounds.

Ounces

  • A half keg contains 992 ounces of beer. That's around 82.5 individual 12-ounce servings.

Full keg

  • Brewers supply their beer to bars and restaurants in full kegs. A full keg is equal to half a barrel. A full barrel can hold more than 30 gallons of liquid and is considered cumbersome for wholesale distribution.
