Bad Effects of Mobile Phones

Cellphones can have serious effects on the environment.

The modern invention of cell phones has made worldwide mobile communication possible. Although mobile phones provide many conveniences, they also cause negative environmental, sociological and physiological effects.

Physiological

Because of frequent use, mobile phones can carry harmful bacteria, causing the transmission of contagious infections. Dr. Charles Gerba, a University of Arizona germ expert, says, "cell phones are a haven for a variety of microbes--some of which are pretty nasty."

Environmental Effects

Cell phones are made of circuit boards, cables and semiconductors--all of which emit harmful toxins. Unwanted cell phones end up in landfills and those toxins cause contamination of water and food sources.

Sociological Effects

The use of mobile phones by drivers may cause an increase in automobile accidents. A study conducted by the Center for Cognitive Brain Imaging, in Pennsylvania, revealed that drivers using mobile phones experience distractions similar to a person under the influence of alcohol.
