- For a general carpet cleaning, mix 1/4 cup of dish detergent with a gallon of warm water. Spray small areas, brush lightly and sponge with clear water.
- Vacuum the carpet. Sprinkle on baking soda and let it set for 2 to 3 hours. Vacuum to remove the baking soda.
- Mix together even amounts of salt, borax and white vinegar. Rub the paste into the carpet. Leave it for a few hours and then vacuum.
- Mix 1/4 cup of ammonia and 1 cup of warm water. Spray the mixture on the carpet and wait a few minutes. Blot the stain with a clean cloth or paper towel. Another solution is 1/4 cup of white vinegar with 1 cup of warm water.
