Keeping Inspiration Organized

eHow Home Blog

Stumbling upon an unbelievably inspiring photo of your dream kitchen is one thing, but being able to locate your muse when the time finally arrives to select tile and paint colors is another.

Keeping your thoughts and inspiration organized is much easier than it seems and will save a great deal of time and frustration when you decide to jump head first into a home project.

Create a home base …

Rule #1 of inspiration organization is to create a designated space to store all of your home goodness. Whether you prefer to save your ideas in a neatly labeled binder or shoebox shoved under the bed, having a set place to tuck away inspiration for a later use is key.

Magazines are meant to be destroyed …

Found a photo of your dream kitchen nestled within the pages of your favorite magazine? Tear out the page, gab a pen and make a quick note to yourself about what strikes you. Don’t be scared. Rip those bad boys to shreds.

Look to the web …

With all of the motivating home blogs and DIY sites scattered around the internet (ahem … eHow), turning to the Web for inspiration is a no brainer. Print photos and articles that inspire you or create a file on your desktop reserved only for your online home inspirations.

Don’t be camera shy …

Especially now that we have camera phones, there is no reason why you shouldn’t get a little snap happy. Whether you are scoping flooring samples at Home Depot or drooling over your neighbor’s freshly remodeled guest bath, pull that camera out and take a few photos of what makes your creative wheels turn.

Find common themes…

Once you’ve had a chance to gather a fair amount of creative clout, sit down and sort through your collection. Noticing a pattern of sleek white tile in bathrooms? Dark hardwoods paired with light walls? Not only will you have a better feel for your own style but a stronger sense of the direction you are headed for future home projects.
