Photoshop can be used to create amazing images.

Adobe Photoshop has been a popular graphics program for years. Whether used for purely artistic purposes, or to create or modify images for an ad, Photoshop has many tools to make the job easier. But Photoshop has changed over the years, adding new features. Photoshop 7 was one of the major milestones in the development of the product, and many people still use it. However, Photoshop CS, which is also known as Photoshop 8, included many changes that made it well worth the price of switching.

  1. Text on a Path

    • Photoshop CS now allows text (which formally had to be placed in a straight line or adjust using the "Warp Text" function) to be conformed to any chosen path based shape or line. This is a very useful feature, allowing for the creation of professional looking logos or signs.

    PhotoMerge

    • Creating panoramas using a series of images stitched together in a graphics program has always been a complex and time consuming process. But when PhotoMerge, already available in Photoshop Elements, was added to Photoshop in the CS version, it made the process much easier. PhotoMerge allows the user to import their overlapping images into Photoshop, and then assembles them automatically with the click of a button into a single image.

    Editing History

    • Being able to access the editing history is one of the most powerful and useful tools added in Photoshop CS. This panel lets the user keep track of all the changes he has made to the document since it was opened. This means that the user can more easily back out of changes he does not like. It also makes it easier to recreate a particular effect, since the history of how it was done is right there. But it is important to remember that when a document is closed, this history is wiped clean.

    Filter Gallery

    • Another major improvement in CS is the filter gallery. In Photoshop 7, each filter was applied separately, appearing in its own separate dialog. But in Photoshop CS, users are presented with a gallery that contains all the filters. To the left is a preview of the filter being applied, while on the right are the controls for the effect. The users can switch back and forth between effects, adding more than one at a time if they choose.

    Assignable Keys

    • A feature in Photoshop CS that can greatly improve your work-flow is the new ability for the user to create their own keyboard shortcuts. This means that if users have a function that they use for their work on a regular basis, they can assign this function to a key or group of keys so they can instantly apply this function.
