- Bubble Wrap is a packaging product made up of a sheet of plastic with a series of sealed air bubbles. The air bubbles are circle shaped. Its construction creates a very flexible yet durable protective sheet for packaging any kind of item for shipping, mailing, moving and storage. It is usually clear but is also made in specialty colors. There are types of Bubble Wrap with small circles, which is more common, or big circles, which are used mostly for bigger items.
- Bubble Wrap protects items for shipping, moving and storage. It can also be used as a toy as the bubbles are very fun to pop or to step on.
- The most commonly used type of Bubble Wrap is the clear sheet with the small circular air bubbles. However there are sheets with big bubbles that are used for bigger items such as furniture. There are also different colored Bubble Wraps. Bubble Wrap can come in sheets but can also come in rolls. Bubble wrap is also seen in some mailing envelopes already attached to the inside.
- Bubble Wrap is a great packaging tool. Because it is so flexible, it can be used for many different types of items: heavy items, light, oddly shaped, small, precious and expensive items. You can use as little or as much as you need. Bubble Wrap is a durable plastic, so it lasts a very long time without harming the item it is protecting. It can also be used and reused because of its durability and flexibility. Bubble Wrap is fun for entertaining as well, for children as well as adults. Because it has air bubbles, these bubbles can be popped by pressing them with your fingers as well as stepping on them.
- Bubble Wrap was created by Alfred Fielding and Marc Chavannes in 1957. They were trying to create a plastic wallpaper but that concept was a failure. Luckily for them, they used the failure to create a success -- and Bubble Wrap was invented. Sealed Air Corp. was co-founded by Fielding in 1960, and they are still a major Bubble Wrap manufacturer today.
