Ways to Hang Curtains on a Steel Door

Save

Steel doors are sturdy and add security to a property. Many steel doors have windows. It is nice to have windows on a door to let light into the room and to see outside. Adding curtains to the window can give you privacy with the option of opening the curtains to allow light in the room. Putting a curtain rod on steel doors is more difficult than on a wooden door but there are options that make it possible.

Magnetic Curtain Rods

  • Many people do not want to drill a hole into a steel door to install curtain rods. Holes in steel are hard to fix and will most likely always be in the door. Using magnetic curtain rods is a great option to hang curtains on a steel door. Curtain rods that magnetically attach to the door are available to purchase. Make sure the rod you purchase has a strong enough magnet to support the weight of the curtains.

Industrial Strength Adhesive

  • You can use an industrial-strength, double-sided mounting adhesive to install curtain rods on a steel door. The adhesive must be strong enough to support the weight of the curtain rod and curtains. This option is best for curtains made out of thinner fabric because they will be lighter in weight. Use curtain rods that have a large base so there is more surface area to apply the adhesive, adding additional strength. Determine the exact location you want to stick the curtain rod before you apply the adhesive.

Epoxy

  • Applying the curtain rod to the door with epoxy is a more permanent solution to hanging the curtain rod. Epoxy is very strong and hard to remove. When selecting an epoxy, select one made for metal and whatever material your curtain rod is made of. Select a curtain rod that has a flat base for mounting; this allows more surface area to come in contact with the epoxy. After the epoxy has been applied and mounted to the door, tap the curtain rod onto the door with duct tape until the epoxy dries.

Welding

  • If you are using steel curtain rods, you can weld the curtain rods onto the door. Keep in mind that once the curtain rods are welded to the door, they cannot be removed. This is the strongest solution and also the most permanent solution. If you decide to weld your curtain rod to the door, use a simple curtain rod that will not go out of style soon. The curtains will need to be attached to the rod with rings that can be removed so the curtains can be changed.
