Baby showers themselves are joyful occasions and can be made even more so by adding a special theme. If your baby or the baby of a friend is due around Halloween, consider having a Halloween-themed baby shower. Considering that much of Halloween is concerned with decoration and costumes, it should be relatively easy to find ways to create a Halloween theme while planning a baby shower.
Halloween Colors and Decorations
Think about the color scheme and décor that you can use while planning a Halloween-themed baby shower. Avoid Halloween color schemes that are too dark, such as colors inspired by gothic costumes. Instead, keep it simple with orange and black. Focus on including pumpkins, black cats, candy corn and other family-friendly aspects of the holiday into your overall decorations, and consider including Halloween-themed baby items in the decorating scheme as well.
Small pumpkins can be used in many Halloween-themed games, such as a Halloween version of "Hot Potato" (pass a small pumpkin around the group to children's music, and whoever is holding the pumpkin when the music stops is out.) You can also go "Pumpkin Bowling," using small pumpkins for the bowling balls and baby bottles filled with candy corn as the pins. Crossword puzzles or word finds are also popular choices for baby showers, and can be custom-made online to include both baby and Halloween items. Most of the games that are commonly planned for other themed baby showers can be adapted to work for one with a Halloween theme, such as using yarn as "spider webbing" and then having guests try to guess how big the mother-to-be's belly is.
Plan several other fun group activities as well in addition to the Halloween-themed games that you come up with. You might pass out plain white onesies to small groups of two or three (or to individuals) and let them decorate the onesies in accordance with the Halloween theme. This is an activity that guests can be creative with while also being something that will leave the mother with something both useful and meaningful. Another fun activity would be cookie decorating according to the Halloween theme; do this one early, and by the end of the baby shower everyone will have fresh-baked cookies to share.
