Curtain Pelmet Ideas

Curtain pelmets are used as window treatments because they are stylish and enchanting, and also serve a purpose. Pelmets hide curtain rods and brackets and for keep the overhead sun from entering the room. They provide a visual frame for the window, too. If you are interested in decorating your windows with pelmets, there are several options.

Match the Pelmet to the Room

  • Match the color and fabric of the pelmet to the room colors and fabrics. If you are installing the curtain pelmet in the bedroom, coordinate the color and fabric of the pelmet with your bedspread or pillow shams. Or, try matching them to your carpet or an area rug. You can also match the pelmet to a nightstand tablecloth and even to doilies on your dresser or vanity.

If you are installing the curtain pelmets in the dining room, coordinate the color and fabric of the pelmets with your tablecloth or the seat cushions on your dining room chairs. If you intend to decorate your living room windows with pelmets, match the color and fabric to the sofa and love seat, an area rug or carpet.

Double Doors

  • Curtain pelmets are not just for windows. You can hang a pelmet over your double glass doors. If the doors have a wood trim, hang a slender wood curtain pelmet over the door so it appears as though the pelmet is part of the door frame. The curtains will hang right under the pelmet, as if they were magically hanging from space.

Matching to Ceiling Décor

  • A curtain pelmet does not always have to look like a rectangular box hung over the window. Make the pelmet a part of the ceiling décor by hanging a double ceiling-mounted track over the windows to hold the curtains and sheers. This type of pelmet just blends in with its surroundings and gives the appearance that it is part of the ceiling. It especially looks dramatic in a dining room or living room where there are several windows in a row or one large window. Use this window treatment to decorate a master bedroom, if you have lots of windows.
