Homemade Bridal Shower Decoration Ideas

You want everything about the bridal shower you are hosting to be special, and what better way to show that than to make your own decorations? Homemade decorations show how much you care about the bride-to-be and add a personal touch to the festivities.

Centerpieces and Gift Tables

  • It is always fun to incorporate your shower theme into the centerpieces for your tables. By adding helium balloons, ribbons or streamers and confetti you can make almost anything into a great bridal shower centerpiece. If you are having a kitchen theme, use a pitcher with a bright bow around it filled with various-sized kitchen utensils that balloons are tied to and confetti on the table. A lingerie theme might have varying sizes of candles with lotions, pretty soaps and perfume placed among the candles and ribbons and confetti scattered about. If your shower is about the couple's new home, use small potted plants or herbs with fabric ribbon bows and miniature gardening tools for your centerpiece. A theme centered on where the couple intends to honeymoon would lend itself to a centerpiece reflecting the destination. Tropical can have seashells, fish in a fish bowl, sand and glitter. Skiing might have lift tickets you made on your computer, tiny mittens and hats and cut-out snowflakes that you sprayed with glitter. Using a theme and thinking about what the the bride-to-be would find touching will make your homemade centerpieces very special.

  • Carry the theme of your bridal shower to the favors you make for the guests. Sew small bags or pouches using elegant fabric and satin ribbon drawstrings. Fill them with a variety of teas or flavored coffee samples, tea strainers or small kitchen utensils--like measuring spoons--for a kitchen-themed shower. Lingerie or honeymoon showers can have the bags filled with potpourri, gourmet candies, fragrant soaps or sewing kits. Around home or garden themes you can have an assortment of seed packets. Homemade jams and jellies, or jars filled with homemade cocoa mix with the recipe attached, are welcomed favors.

Around the Room

  • Depending on your theme and if your bridal shower is more casual than formal, crepe paper streamers and balloons in the wedding colors hung around the room are terrific decorations. If you want a softer, more romantic look use tulle or fine netting instead of streamers. Add giant tulle bows that you sprayed lightly with glitter. Or cut out wedding bells or hearts and decorate them and hang them from the ceiling or on the walls. Add some long strings of beads or foil garland.
