Unique Family Reunion Ideas

A family reunion is a special time for members of your family to reconnect and share their experiences with each other. While some members of your family keep in close contact all year, many other family members may not have the opportunity to see each other very often, even if they keep in contact by phone or email. Hosting a unique family reunion for your family will help you to create a memorable experience for your family to share.

  1. Destination Reunions

    • Plan a destination family reunion. Create a trip itinerary for your entire family such as a camping trip, a whitewater rafting trip, or a vacation to the mountains. You can arrange for all attending members of your family to stay within close proximity to each other on the camp grounds or rent a large house that can accommodate everyone so you can spend more time together. Organize activities for your family to spend time or work together, such as a hike, horse riding day trip, or a trip to a local national park. A destination reunion gives your family the opportunity to share a vacation together.

    Obstacle Course

    • Create an obstacle course for your family at your reunion. You can have family games where you challenge each other to go through the obstacle course and compete on friendly terms with each other. Those who cannot or do not wish to compete can stand on the sidelines and cheer on the competing family members, taking pictures or video recordings of the competition. Create the obstacle course using a local playground or by using games and equipment that you already own to create an obstacle course in your own backyard. You can set up old tires to run through, a rope swing to get contestants from one part of the course to another, and a slip 'n slide to get competing family members to the finish line.

    Giving Back

    • A great way for your family to bond is to give back to your community as your family reunion. You can contact your local Habitat for Humanity chapter and arrange to work on building a local house together. Another idea is for your entire family to volunteer for the day in a soup kitchen. Giving back to a charity is a great way for your family to share a special and unique experience while also helping to do good work in your community. There are many different opportunities for charity work in your community through local organizations, churches and other community groups. Search for organizations that you can participate in through the internet and by speaking with community leaders who can give you recommendations.
