A kitchen is typically a part of a home that is utilized the most. People gather in kitchens to prepare food, eat meals and discuss things. This usually occurs several times a day. Unfortunately, a lot of kitchens are unorganized. Changing the layout of your kitchen or the placement of the things in it can greatly improve it. Following a few kitchen organization ideas will generate additional storage room and place items in more convenient locations.

From Quick Guide: Kitchen Storage Guide

    Start From Scratch

  1. Take out stuff you have in every storage area of the kitchen. Decide which of these items you actually need to have stored there. Any things not used frequently either throw away or place in another location in the house. Use the storage in your kitchen only for items needed there on a regular basis. Look at the expiration dates on foodstuff and dispose of expired items. Read over the additional kitchen organization ideas before placing any items back.

  3. Put pots, pans and lids in as little space as possible to free up a lot of your storage areas. One organization idea to accomplish this is to store pots and pans on wrought-iron racks hung from a wall or ceiling. Place these near the stove area where you use these items the most. Put the lids in specifically designed compartments inside cabinet doors, in deep divided kitchen drawers or in horizontally divided cabinets.

Place other items in locations that are easily accessible and avoid stacking them, if possible. Use lazy susans, cabinet step shelving or pullout shelving. Utilize various types of storage bins or hanging baskets placed in handy locations for produce and other frequently used kitchen items.
  4. Placement for Kitchen Organization

  5. Putting items used in specific areas of your kitchen will greatly improve the organization of it. The area used for preparation should be in the middle of your refrigerator and sink. Place all items needed for food preparation in this location. Put things used for cooking near the stove and items used for cleaning or storage close to the sink. Create more space by installing sliding drawers beneath the sink or putting storage compartments inside your cupboards. Locate the dishwasher close to the sink to avoid needless steps and save time. Place trash containers in handy locations and use more than one if you recycle.
