Ideas for Baseball Birthday Cakes

A baseball cake is a perfect birthday cake for someone who loves playing or watching baseball. There are many ways to make a baseball birthday cake. Start with basic cake batter and create a simple baseball or create a fancy baseball infield. Get creative and use your imagination to create a memorable baseball birthday cake.

  • Use a half-sphere-shaped cake pan and line it with parchment paper to ensure easy removal of the cake from the pan. Pour the batter into a cake pan and bake the cake until done. Allow the cake to cool completely on a wire rack. Place the inverted cake onto a cake plate and frost it with white frosting. Make red lines along the cake to resemble the stitching on a baseball.

Baseball Cap

  • Bake cakes in two different-sized half-sphere-shaped cake pans lined with parchment paper. Allow the cakes to cool completely on a wire rack and then invert both cakes onto a large flat serving surface. Place both cakes next to each other to resemble a baseball cap (the larger cake being the cap and the smaller cake being the bill of the cap). Use colors of the birthday person's favorite baseball team for the frosting and frost the cakes to look like a baseball cap. Add the person's name to the back of the cake if desired.

Baseball Diamond

  • Bake a sheet cake and cut it to a square shape after it has cooled. Invert the cake out of the pan onto a flat serving surface. Sprinkle graham cracker crumbs over a diamond shape in the center of the cake to create the infield of the baseball diamond. Use green frosting to create the grass of the outfield surrounding the infield. Draw the baselines with lines of white frosting. Use flat, square-shaped pieces of gum for the bases.

Home Plate and a Baseball Glove

  • Bake a sheet cake and cut it to a square shape after it has cooled. Use the portion of cake removed to create a pointed side of the cake so that it resembles a home plate. Frost the cake with a white frosting and dust graham cracker crumbs over it lightly to make it appear dirty.

Bake a second cake using a baseball glove cake pan. After the cake has cooled, invert it onto the center of the home plate cake. Frost the baseball glove cake with brown frosting and outline the details of the glove with black piped frosting.
