How to Thread a White Zigzag Sewing Machine

Jupiterimages/Creatas/Getty Images

Vintage White zigzag sewing machines are durable, sturdy and easy to use. These older machines remain an excellent choice for a beginner or an experienced sewer who prefers a basic and reliable machine. Many vintage machines come without a manual, so a user may need to learn how to use her new sewing machine through trial and error. Learn to thread a White zigzag sewing machine so you can get started sewing today.

Things You'll Need:

  • Thread
  • Small Flat Head Screwdriver
  • Sewing Machine Needle

Unscrew the screw that holds the needle into place by hand or using a small flat head screwdriver. Insert a new sewing machine needle, placing the needle so that the flat side of the sewing machine needle is to the right. Secure the needle by tightening the screw.

Place the thread spool onto the spool pin closest to the sewing machine needle.

Pass the thread through the two thread guides on the top of the sewing machine body, first the one at the back of the machine, closest to the spool pin, then the one at the front of the sewing machine.

Bring the thread down toward the tension disks on the front of the sewing machine. Draw the thread between the disks, from right to left. Continue upward in a clockwise direction until the thread catches in the tension spring when threading a sewing machine.

Pull the thread down and to the left, under the next thread guide. Carry the thread upward and through the hole in the take up lever. Pull the thread down and through the remaining thread guides until you reach the needle.

Thread the needle from left to right.

Tip

Use good quality thread in your White zigzag sewing machine for the best result.
