"I'm William Perkinson and I'm here to tell you how to hang a curtain rod. Two things you want to make sure about your curtain rod is that it's at the right height and it's at the right width, where it's securely mounted in the wall. The right height is determined by two things, one the length of your curtain. You certainly don't want to get them two high and have your curtain not cover the window. And number two you don't want it too long where the curtain drags the floor and gets in your way. And how wide is really determined, really how secure you want it mounted to the wall. The first four inches from the window opening is going to be solid wood. Cause the way your builder has designed the house, this has to carry the load of the studs that would be here that have now been taken out for the window. So we've got solid wood for four inches from the edge of the window and we want to make sure that our bracket is mounted in that wood. You don't want to have a small child or a pet grab hold of the curtain and have it come crashing down around their head. So we determined that our curtains are the proper length that we can hang, they are seventy six and a half inches long. They'll hang, come down just below the window sill. You want to have them come down four to six inches below the window sill if they are not going all the way to the floor. And so we've determined that right up, just above the corner of the window and we are going to go about two inches from the edge of the window, see we are still in the four inch of solid wood so it will stay securely mounted in the wood. It's not going to come crashing down on our heads. I'm going to get the drill. When you screw into wood, it's much better to have a power drill then to do it by hand simply cause you are just going to, you are going to wear yourself out. So lets see. Oh yeah, very solid. Most brackets are going to have two to three screws, this one comes with three. Not a problem. Especially when we have our drill. Now if your curtain rod and brackets come with a tie back you want to do the same thing, make sure that it's within the four inches of solid wood. We are done now with the bracket, our rod simply slides in like so for a perfect fit. We'll put the finial on the end after we hang the curtain. Alright, we have almost finished, this is a tab top curtain. Remember it's seventy six inches long so we found the exact height for it to hang. And we are just about done putting it on the rod. And we are going to mount it on our bracket. And man that bracket is securely fastened into that wood and I've got the finial which will keep it in place so it doesn't slip out. Alright. There we are. I'm William Perkinson and that's how to hang a curtain rod."
